So to start, make your favorite cake, or whatever cake you want to make...
Make sure to let the cake fully cool down, I mean 100% cool!! Now comes the fun part. Crumble it all up!!!!
Once the entire cake is crumbled into small bits, you want to start adding frosting. If you make your own frosting you must make it nice and thick so that it stands up. For the easier route a can of frosting is fine. Now depending on how your cake came out is how much frosting you will use. I would start with heaping spoon fulls, then completely stir that in before adding more to check and see how much you really need. After all they are not called Frosting Pops!
Once complete, take small spoon fulls and roll into balls. All depends on the size of the pop you are looking for. I have heard that Wilton makes a mold for this purpose to make the perfect size and shape pop each time. For the rest of us, we just wing it and use what we got. Lay all of the balls out on some wax paper.
The funky shaped one in front was some extra, I was keeping it on the side as I was deciding if I wanted to break it apart and add ears to some of the Cake Pops to make some animals. I decided to break it down and make two more balls as I do not want to push my creative luck just yet.
Next use some melted chocolate to attach the lollipop stick to the Cake Pop.
Let this sit so that the chocolate secures the lollipop stick to the Cake Mix. Otherwise when you try to dip them into the chocolate the cake pop could either fall off the stick and you will have to go searching for it, or if the cake mix is too soft and you cover it in the chocolate and then stand it up the cake mix will slowly fall down the stick. One way to solve that issue is that you could after covering the Cake Pops in chocolate lay them on a side or keep them sitting as shown above (when setting). Me being the person I am, want to do it the difficult way as I want a perfectly round coat of chocolate on these with no flat sides. And how good am I if I take the easy way out. I want to push my luck and see if I can pull it off.
So for right now, this is where I am... They are setting. I want to give them another 20 minutes or so and see where I can go from there. I am hoping to pull this off and get them to stand up and not have the cake fall. Worst case scenario I will have no choice but to cover them and let them dry in the position they are setting and then deal with the flat tops. But I will try the other way first and see if I can manage.
Stay Tuned... (Oh and I made it to Day 3 of posting for November) So far, So good.....
I'm back! OK Cake Pops were nice and set next step cover in chocolate
Just dunk it in some chocolate Don't twist it around but move it side to side to ensure it is fully covered then life straight up, no shaking, no banging extra chocolate off.
I used a Cake Pop platform (It is about $2) to stand them in to dry.
I didnt go anywhere near what I wanted to do for decorating... I was getting nervous that I made the pops too big and they were going to slide down. SO just some light sprinkles and that is it for now. Next time I will be more creative.
The Inside...
looks yummy. something i have done is put the stick for the pops in hard stryofoam and that will keep the tops round and not flat. i may have to try this recipe, looks good
ReplyDeleteI have seen displays with the styrofoam and that is a great idea! And if you are making a display it allows for more creativity. You can wrap the styrofoam in fabrics and create a complete look! I have heard that I made Cake Pops different then others. Someone even asked if I used a Cake Pop Pan, I have looked up the pan and seen it now so at least I know what they were referring to, but that seems bland to me now that I have had it the above way. With the pan you are just using Cake mix, and then instead of frosting using melted chocolate. I get that it is still cake on a lollipop which no matter which way you do it that is just fabulous! I hope to make Cake Pops again soon as I want to dress them up for Thanksgiving and see what I can do. Stay Posted!! :)
